MARPLE MAKE LAST FOUR
Responding to Marple’s 156-6 (James Morgan 42, Mike Schofield 60) Alderley Edge fell an agonizing four runs short of a semi-final berth. Opening the innings captain Adam Worrall scored 42. Tom Foreman chipped in with 26 (plus 3-25) and things looked in their favour at 141-5 but four wickets were lost for the addition of only four runs before a ninth wicket partnership took them to the brink. Ed Saxelby (3-18) and Dylan Moroney (3-34) shared those crucial four late wickets.
After Jimmy Warrington’s mightily impressive 3.5-1-10-5 against Oulton Park his fellow opening bowler, the former Leicestershire player, Ollie Freckingham improved that analysis by capturing 3.5- 1-8-5 when Nantwich defeated Widnes in their final mini-group match. Earlier Ryan Brown put 55 alongside his name. For Widnes skipper Tom Evans recorded 3-33 and ex Countdown contestant Chris Kirby scored 31. Division 2 side, Alvanley (Jonathon Whitley 33, Simon Gee 33*) gave an excellent account of themselves at Parkgate and Neston will have been relieved to have got over the line with only three balls to spare (Simon Stokes 57, Luke Campden 30*). Leading six-hitter Liam Banthorpe whacked 77 off 38 balls for Bramhall in an innings closed score of 205-6. At one stage Urmston reached 146-1 but eventually finished on 181-8 (Calum Turner 70, Craig Allison 58). Bramhall’s evergreen and ever-reliable Simon Wilkinson 3-36.
