Updates required from clubs with specific focus on overseas players
Dear Club Reps/Chairmen
This year will see the ECB and Home Office being far stricter than last year with regards the checking of overseas players eligibility to enter the country to play cricket for your club this coming season. I have been made aware that one of the steps that the ECB are going to take is to check the databases of all Premier Leagues for players who are recorded as Categorie 3 players, which may also include those who have been considered as Categorie 3 Exempt, and then use the information in checking whether that person is eligible to be in the country to play cricket by liaising with the Immigration Service.
As many of the clubs database of players contains players who no longer play at the club, I am requesting that all clubs, not just those in the Premier League, undertake a tidying up exercise, removing players who no longer play at the clubs as squad players rather than deleting them as this will wipe their playing history, paying particular attention to overseas players who have played in previous seasons but no longer have any playing connection with the club. This action should avoid any enquiries being made by the Immigration Service.
I would like to suggest that this action is undertaken as a matter of urgency as the ECB could begin the checks at any time.
