Upton hosted Chester BH and lost by 19 runs. In their previous match they lost to Neston but they
performed with credit in both matches and attracted a decent crowd on both nights. Definitely a club
on the up. Deferred a night to Friday 1 June, to accommodate the Lancs 2nd XI match against
Scotland, the Neston v Oxton fell foul to the weather. The match will now be played on 7 June. In
Group 2 both Grappenhall and Widnes got over the line with some comfort and will now go head to
head for the QF spot. In Group 3 Alvanley of Div 2 stole a march on Davenham of Div 1 with a 38
run victory and head the group. Andy Bennion whacked a belligerent 88 with nine 4s and five 6s. Sam
Hunt did his bit for Davenham scoring 27, taking 3-45 and bagging a catch. Oulton Park and
Nantwich were comfortable winners in Group 4 and will contest the QF place at Whitehouse Lane on
14 June. Should be a cracker.
A question…….when did a player only three days beyond his fifteenth birthday take 5 for 23
including a hat-trick and end-up on the losing side! Try 24 May! Max Nightingale of Toft was the
unlucky guy. Lindow of Div 2 claimed the notable scalp of the Booth Park boys. Consequently
Bramhall, Toft and Lindow will now scrap for the Group 8 qualifying berth on 7 June.
NET RUN RATE…….the concluding matches in the East groups take place on 7 June. It is possible
that net run rate might play a part? The calculation is described in para 2.5 of the competition rules on
page 115 of the handbook.
Finally a reminder of the draw made at the AGM (Bowdon 16/1/18) ………..
Thurs 14/6 - Group 9 winner v Group 6 winner
Thurs 21/6 (19/6 if Toft involved)
Group 2 winners v Group 4 winners
Group 1 winners v Group 3 winners
Group 8 winners v Group 5 winners
Group 7 winners v Group 6 or 9 winners
Sunday 1 July
The participants will be the four winners of Q/Fs. A new draw will be made for hosting rights.
