Forties Focus - Week 11

WEEK 11 fixtures in all four Over Forties section divisions were interrupted by the football World Cup being shown on television, many games being postponed or cancelled, while information has not come in from several other clubs.

First win for Mobberley

Most eyebrow-raising result came in the Central Division where Mobberley registered their first victory, beating Warrington by 28 runs at Church Lane on Thursday.
Mobberley ran up 144-2, Chris Leech and Abdul Aqeel both scoring 30, then restricted Warrington to 126-2. Tom Jones 31, Tashar Mahambrey 30.
Leaders Davenham Dodgers suffered their second defeat at Toft on Friday after being held to their lowest tally of the campaign, 94-9, Rick Scott and Mark Jones both taking 2-13. Toft replied with 96-3, Johnny Thompson top scoring with 32.
Timperley kept up their hopes of a play-off place with a 56 run victory at Ashley on Tuesday after posting 179-6, Rob Matthews 33, Michael Welton 33, Jason Coad 31, Johh Petch 3-28. Ashley replied with 123-4, John Evans 32, Peter Birch 2.8.
The Ashton on Mersey Vikings v Grappenhall game is re-arranged for Thursday, July 26.

Rain checks Urmston
In the North East Division, leaders Urmston Tigers were kept in check when rain ended their home game against Brooklands at the break. Their visitors had totalled 106-9, Chris Mitchell 30, Craig Wilson a best of the day bowling return of 5-21, earning him the Performance of the Week accolade. Urmston did not bat
Cheadle Hulme kept up their good work in second spot with a five wickets home victory over Whalley Rangers, who were restricted to 111, A. Verha 30, Damien Stringer 3-26. The Grove Park side replied with 112-5, Jamie Maltman 28 not out.
Bowdon Vale Vikings beat Cheadle by eight wickets with another impressive display. Cheadle totalled 139-4, Baber Dadabhoy 31 and Vale replied with 142-2 in the 18th over, Gary Webb 32, Peter Thorpe 31, Peter Williamson 30.
The Bowdon v Sale Silverbacks match has not been reported.

Bredbury win at Macc
NOT much to report from the South-East Division, apart from Bredbury Saints’ fine four wickets victory at Macclesfield, which keeps them well in the running for a play-off spot. Macc totalled 132-8, Chris Simpson 34, Chris Horsfield 31, Jon Usher 3-15 and Saints passed that in the last over with 135-6, Andy Bamford 31, Steve Whittingham 2-19.
Information about the Bollington Veterans v Woodley match is missing, while the Alderley Edge Wizards v Poynton Legends game is now on Monday, July 23 and Bramhall v Offerton on Wednesday, August 8.

West needle game off
IN the West Division, the key game between Chester Boughton Hall Blazers and Neston on Thursday was rained off with two points each, meaning both remain favourites to finish in the top spots.
Upton v Irby was cancelled, Caldy v Tattenhall Wreckers is now on Wednesday, August 8 and the result of the Oxton v Weaverham game is awaited.
